ABOUT D&A Yachts

Dennis Garret and Albert Jimenez were the first pioneers to build sportfishing boats in Costa Rica utilizing the cold molded process, and incorporating the local hardwoods. These first boats were known as the famous 30 and 40 foot Palm Beach brand models. These same boats, built over 20 years ago, are still plying and trolling the waters around the world today chasing billfish. The most famous one of these, the 40ft. Magic, has been fishing down in Guatemala for the past ten years and has caught over 20,000 billfish, and twice set the record for the most billfish caught in a single year. Another fine example is the 31ft. Gamefisherman captained by Richard Chellemi here in Costa Rica. This boat is over 20 years old and has over 36,000 documented hours on her bottom, and has caught over 18,000 billfish, and either won or placed in more tournaments in Costa Rica than any other boat in Costa Rica.

Their last three boats built, which are currently laying in the Suenos marina, having been sold to astute and demanding big game fisherman, who insist on quality and perfection. Their boats are known around the world for their special harmonics and fish raising abilities, you can only find in a cold molded boat.

Why settle for a factory built, production line boat, when you can have a custom built boat, specifically designed around your needs ,and one that exhibits that beautiful fit and finish you only find in customs boats. Have Dennis and Albert build one especially for you. Don’t you think you owe it to yourself.

BOAT BUILDING PROCESS

Each boat is built by hand and only the best materials are incorporated throughout the boat building process. All the stringers and engine beds are built using marine grade mahogany, then covered in bi-axial fiberglass cloth and impregnated, and sealed with the best epoxies. The bottom and hull sides are then layered biaxially with Black Laurel, a very strong rot resistant hardwood, then covered with layers of 20 ounce biaxial fiberglass cloth, and then covered in only the best epoxies. The hull bottoms are on average over a 1 ¼ thick, giving you maximum strength and protection. The decks incorporate only the finest marine grade plywood and epoxies. Once the boats are hand faired to perfection, and glassed and epoxied, they are then covered with 2 coats of Awlgrip high build epoxy primer, sanded perfectly smooth, then sprayed again with another 3 coats Awgrip 545 primer. This primer is then sanded perfect, and prepped for the final color coat of Awlgrip paint you chose. All hardware throughout the boat is marine grade 316 stainless steel, as it should be. The fuel tanks are built out of fiberglass, just like you find in brands such as Bertram or Hatteras, not aluminum, which the cheaper production boats use. So there is no worry about having to rip up the boat twenty years later to replace corroded tanks. All wiring throughout the boat is marine grade tinned copper wiring and all connectors and terminals get heat shrinked. The covering boards, toerails and caprails are built out of the finest teaks and finished and joined to perfection. You may choose many different power options best suited to your needs, whether it’s long range you are looking for or a high performance 40 knot tournament boat. The steering system and helm consist of Hynautic-Teleflex units and the controls are Rollins single lever controls.

The boats can be outfitted with our choice of electronics packages giving you a wide range of options and layouts. Whether you need a high powered radar to find birds when you are in a tournament or just a small radar for cruising, you decide what you need in your boat. The boats interior design can also be planned out around your needs, whether you require a dayboat for charter or something for long-range trips. You can choose many different layouts that you and the builder designs especially for you. Additional options, such as watermakers, ice chippers, tuna tubes, livewells can be easily installed for you also. Remember this boat is custom built for you and you decide what goes in it.

Why not treat yourself to a custom sportfisherman instead of the usual cookie cutter boats being mass produced. Let these master craftsmen build one of these magnificent boats for you.
